Talked to Linksys and they say it's MS issue. Checked all my settings.

Connection screen says "you are connected to the access point but no

internet can be found."

other laptops can connect on this network though. I've rebooted, rebooted

the internet receiver, reinstalled the adapter software etc. to no avail. I

also tried reinstalling service pack 2.

Any ideas?

Ideas:

_NETSH_

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

You can also try this software download from a working machine:

LSP-Fix

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

_Flush_DNS_

Click Start, Run, type:

IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key]

Why did you wait nearly 4 years before installing SP2?

iTunes of course !

Windows system requirements

a.. PC with USB 2.0 port

b.. Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

c.. iTunes 7.7 or later

Previously it probably didn't require Service Pack 2.

Re: After xp service pack 2 install - no internet connection

Thanks for the input.

I tried both start/run things you suggested and also ran the file off

that url you gave. It found no problems and requested no changes. The

two start/run things didn't make a change.

Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far, I appreciate it.

I should add that I cannot connect using a direct cable connection

either for whatever reason.

As to the question of why I waited... this laptop is used for running

itunes only during sound jobs. I have a sound system and go to fairs,

festivals etc. and run itunes in between bands with music to keep the

stage lively. So I just never had the need to do anything to the

laptop. 9,000 songs and lots of playlists for various genres.

I notice that there's a service pack 3 now. Should I try going to it?

I right clicked on the icon in the sys tray and tried repair

connection. It seemed the ip address was 0.0.0.0.0 kind of thing. I

noticed it now has an ip in there but an error box came up reading:

"windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following

action cannot be completed: Renewing your ip address"

Check any / all Internet security software like anti-virus and

software firewalls (other than the built-in XP SP2 firewall.) I have

encountered a software firewall that must be told to trust the

wireless network SSID otherwise it will "disconnect" /

"deauthenticate" the network access.

Re: After xp service pack 2 install - no internet connection

1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis

log to an appropriate forum.

Check for Hijackware

http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm

http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm

http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/

When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe)

is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove

any hijackware/spyware.

**Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or

other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.**

3. Do not install WinXP *SP3* (skip SP2 if you're running WinXP SP1) until

an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill of health.

Re: After xp service pack 2 install - no internet connection

Well that didn't help... but the uninstall was the ticket. I un-

installed SP 2 and the net worked. So I was brave (lol!) and re-

installed SP2 and it worked. So I became REAL brave and installed SP

3. Guess what? It worked also! lol! So I'm good to go.

Thanks for the support and help!

:-)
