Service Pack 3 - automatic update

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am running XPhome with auto updates and got the notice that SP3 was

waiting for me to install. I started the installation, then thought STOP I

should read about it before installing!!

Now the advice was, as I am operating with Explorer V7 that I shld uninstall

ExpV7 before installing the SP3. I have done that but now cannot find where

the install files for SP3 are sitting on my PC - can anyone please advise?

I have spent too many hours browsing via Firefox on the MS help sites but

just cannot find any way to start the installation again. If I try to check

updates at MS Home site, it tells me I am not using Explorer. I tried using

the search facility and entering KB832671 - which I think is the SP3 filename.

Just checked out the file you have recommended BUT it says "This

installation package is intended for IT professionals and developers

downloading and installing on multiple computers on a network. If you're

updating just one computer, please visit Windows Update."

SO I AM BACK in the same boat aren't I? If I go to Windows Update - it

wants me to be running Explorer??

HI AGAIN - I also should add that the above download indicated it would take

12 hours. I have presumed that since my autoupdates had already indicated it

was ready on my PC to install - then the download had already taken place

THUS why do it again? Am I totally mistaken that this service pack download

is already 7 waiting on my PC?

Not sure what the problem is here, are you saying that the updates have downloaded but not

installed?

Ignore the title and try Method 1

Hi Tauraian, thanks for the reply - YES I am assuming the SP3 was downlaoded

since my first query was: "Hi, I am running XPhome with auto updates and got

Re: Service Pack 3 - automatic update

Hi Dennis, all updates are temporarily stored in the Softwaredistribution folder under

downloads. Look for it there.

The link I gave you was for the full SP3 download, but it would appear that

you are on dial-up not broadband, if you know some one with a broadband or

other high speed connection see if they will down load the file and burn it

to a CD for you.
