can't send mail in windows live mail

XP home

error when trying to send mail using live mail - outgoing virus scan turned

off

 

"The connection to the server has failed.

 

Subject 'testtt'

Server: 'smtp.earthlink.net'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E

Protocol: SMTP

Port: 25

Secure(SSL): No

Socket Error: 10060"

Can you telnet into their mail host? At a command prompt, run:

 

telnet smtp.earthlink.net 25

 

See if you get their welcome message. Enter 'quit' to end the mail

session, if you get one.

 

Yet tried disabling your software firewall?

Are you actually connected to Earthlink, or are you connected to some other

ISP? If you are connected to another ISP, you'll have to find another SMTP

server that's not on Port 25. gmail is good for this.
