Guest paulw@techeads.com Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Environment: 5 servers, 1 2003 SBS, 3 2003 and 1 2000 all fully patched. About 50 workstations all running XP sp2 WSUS and Symantec Antivirus At first I just thought this issue was your standard run of the mill corrupt profile. But this issue seems to be spreading (5 users in the past few months, multiple times on each computer now) and I cant figure out what is causing it. Rebooting usually fixes the issue but there have been a few times where I’ve had to completely recreate the profile. All are local profiles..no roaming, no folder redirection. I've also tried installing the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service In the event log this shows up.. Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights. DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. for C:\Documents and Settings\user.domain \ntuser.dat I’ve ran chkdsk, all the Dell hardware diags and disabled SAV for testing. Any ideas?

Any ideas? ============ Some users report that the problem can be caused by this well-known miscreant, ZoneAlarm. If it isn't, start disabling things under the startup tab in msconfig.exe until you find the culprit.
