Porge Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 About a month ago, I suddenly couldn't log in to a well known supermarket's website to do my weelky grocery shopping. I have been doing this for many years with no problems. For some reason, I cannot log in. As soon as I type in my log in and password, it goes straight back to the log in page. Obviously I have spoken to their tech people quite a few times but nothing has worked. They say, they can use my log in and password ok to log in. I can shop at every other well known shop on the internet without problem. I regularly run CCCleaner. I have added the website to trusted sites in internet options. I have added the website also to Norton 360. I have an Acer 6gb 640 gb HDD. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and can log in here. Although it is very very slow and when I get to checkout I get an "Error 404" Please can someone help Thanks Quote
RandyL Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Hi Porge. There are so many possibilities but you have to start somewhere. It seems you are having problems accessing, loging on or using secure websites. As this is happening with IE and Firefox I'm guessing it's not the IE settings. Can you temporarily disable Norton antivirus and Norton firewall and see what happens? If you disable them and don't choose the temporary option make sure you turn them back on later. Porge Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Hi, Sorry, forgot to say that I did disable all Norton settings. Porge Quote
RandyL Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 If you're using the registry cleaner of Ccleaner please stop. Running a registry cleaner can cripple a system. Maybe a reset of IE would help. I suggest a reset over Restore Advanced Settings as this will disable all browser add-ons. This is how to do it in IE7 but the instructions should be the same for later versions of IE. http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/2711-How-to-Reset-or-Restore-Advanced-Settings-in-Internet-Explorer-7 Quote We are all members helping other members. richardtj Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 You may have javascript cookies that are out of date. clean them out as this typically shows as an issue, particularly when the website has had an update/ changes to cookies. This is a typical issue that we see all the time on computers trying to log into a leading online auction site. Quote We recycle computer for a living for UK Businesses. Porge Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Hi Ken It is http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1320512429418 Thanks Porge Quote
KenB Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Hi Porge Try this: Computer > C:\ > Windows > System32 > Drivers > etc > Hosts (there may be a text file called Hosts.txt - ignore this) When you click on the Hosts file a box will pop up asking you to select what you want to open it with. Select Notepad. There shouldn't be too much in the file at all. Typically..... # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost If there is anything Sainsburys related then put # in front of it File > Save Then try again. Otherwise add this to the bottom of the file contents... 62.25.72.2 http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp (there is a space after 72.2 ) File > Save Try now. Porge Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Thanks Ken. Nothing related to Sainsburys in host file. So added your suggestion to the bottom of the file contents but when I try to save to C: it says I don't have permission and contact the administrator. Quote
KenB Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Hi This is a security feature. Right click on the Hosts File > Properties > Security Highlight "System" and click "Edit" Tick the box next to "Full Control" and click OK. Try now. Once you have saved the alteration I suggest you go back and un-check the "Full Control" box. Porge Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks Ken but the box to tick full control is just grey and I cannot tick Quote
KenB Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Try it this way: Start > All Programs > Accessories Right click on Notebook > Run as Administrator Navigate to the Hosts file and open it. Make the alterations > File > Save. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
