Guest Gary Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I finally cleared up all the metadata issues and have completely removed the 2000 server domain controller from our domain, leaving just 2003 server as domain controller and several 2003 member servers. this is really the only system I can use as a backup domain controller at this site, so I want to add it back as a domain controller. is it okay to give it back its original name, or should I rename it when I add it back? gary
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Re: adding demoted DC back to domain - rename or not to rename Hello Gary, If it was completely removed from the AD database and DNS, you can use the same name again without any problem. But if you have any problems to remove the old name, solve this first BEFORE adding a DC with different name.
