Guest John Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Which internet time server do you use in your Windows Server 2003 time source? I've been having problem sync'ing with the following time source: time-a.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov time-b.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov The following events have been logged during the past few days: Event Type: Error Event Source: W32Time Event Category: None Event ID: 29 Description: The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 30 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time. Event Type: Warning Event Source: W32Time Event Category: None Event ID: 47 Description: Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from manually configured peer time-a.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov after 8 attempts to contact it. This peer will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new peer with this DNS name. I ping them and they reply just fine (under 50 ms). Is time.windows.com a reliable source? Thanks in advance.
Guest DevlshOne Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Re: Time Server Typically, I use the US Naval Time Servers... you will only need to select one of the three as they are load-balanced: # ntp2.usno.navy.mil Location: Time Service Dept., U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, DC Synchronization: NTP V4 primary (USNO Master Clock H-masers plus GPS) Access Policy: open access for MIL, GOV, and other stratum 2 servers. Choose only one of tick/tock/ntp2.usno.navy.mil. # tock.usno.navy.mil Location: Time Service Dept., U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, DC Synchronization: NTP V4 primary (USNO Master Clock H-masers) Access Policy: open access for MIL, GOV, and other stratum 2 servers. Choose only one of tick/tock/ntp2.usno.navy.mil. # tick.usno.navy.mil Location: Time Service Dept., U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, DC Synchronization: NTP V4 primary (USNO Master Clock H-masers) Access Policy: open access for MIL, GOV, and other stratum 2 servers. Guest John Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Re: Time Server I changed it to tick.usno.navy.mil and restart w32time service. Looks like it's sync'ing now. Event logs: The time service is now synchronizing the system time with the time source tick.usno.navy.mil The time provider NtpClient is currently receiving valid time data from tick.usno.navy.mil Thanks much.
