Teabags Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Since changing to Chrome browser I have noticed that adverts have started to appear for products that I have looked at over the previous days on certain shopping sites. Is this coincidence or is it some sort of tracking?. I always delete cookies and temporary internet files so is there a way of stopping this. Please. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Hello there. Could you explain a little further please? Do they pop up in seprate windows? Such as full screen adds or smaller popups? You may wish to look in our malware/security section and follow the instructions and our Security Team will help you further.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Teabags Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Thanks for that. They are smaller pop ups very much like the box at the top of this page. Also got them on Youtube as well after I had visited Amazon for electrical equipment (the very same items). Quote
RandyL Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 These may just be Targeting Ads and not pop-ups. This is common for instance with google ads etc. An ad will appear by design of the website. The nature of the ad will target things you may be interested in based on recent browser activity. I know you said you regularly delete cookies and temp files which the ads use to target advertise. You also said this started happening after switching to the Chrome browser. It may be that you need to clear the Chrome cache after browsing. Look in your Chrome options. I know this is the way it works in Firefox. Temp files are usually used by Internet Explorer so deleting cookies and temp files is fine for that but as you said you are now using Chrome. For information on actuall Chrome pop-up settings start here then look at all the other options. http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95472 You may also want to look at the Content settings. Teabags Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Thank you Randyl. I didn't realize that temp files and cookie deletion was only for IE. I used your link and have changed my Chrome settings which I hope will work. I also downloaded Superantispyware and the first full scan found 131 cookies/adware. Plastic Nev Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Hi, and for others benefit, Superantispyware is great for finding and getting rid of those tracking cookies, as SAS (for short) is actually a program specially set up for removing spywares, tracking cookies are regarded as spyware, therefore it removes 'em.
