Accessing Remote Desktop and other VPN stuff

I am trying to understand what I can do with a VPN connection

when I am at home trying to access my Work network

Configuration

* Work Network

- Several XP Pro computers on a Workgroup network (no server)

- Linksys VPN RVL200 router

- DSL connection to internet

- The Linksys VPN connection software creates an ISDN channel (Virtual Passage)

* Home Network

- XP Pro Laptop

- Linksys WRT330N router

- DSL connection to internet

1. Should I be able to see the Workgroup name in:

My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network

so that I can access the "shared" resources without using the

"Remote Desktop Connection"?

2. Using "Remote Desktop Connection" from home, does the work computer

have to be in any special mode?

2a. Can the work computer be at the Logon screen?

2b. If the work computer already be logged on by a username "A", can I

logon as username "B"?

3. With a user logged on to a work computer, can:

3a. I passively view the actions of that user?

3b. I actively control the actions on that computer?

3c. We both control the actions on that computer?

TIA

VPN is a secure connection to another computer. Just like your

computer at the office connects to a office network and a server (lets

suppose) the vpn from home is just making a cable connection to the

office. Its not connecting to any PC, its connecting to the network,

just in a secure way to extend the office environment into your house.

And yes, you should see all the office hardware from home because you

now connected to their network.

So to control a PC at the office from home you still have to use Remote

desktop. You're just using that secure internet connection to control

it rather than doing over the internet unsecure.

Or that's the only way I got it work at my office.
