Guest frogman Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I took over an IT gig and after looking at the server there are lots of updates to be added to the server. When there haven't been any updateds added for a long time is it best to just add then all or to just do a few at a time? This is the only server for this group. It is the exchange sever, file share server, and the internet dns/ gateway. Thanks for your help.

If it's SBS are you using ISA? -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ http://vistahelpca.blogspot.com/
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Re: 2003 server Hello frogman, First save all important data and databases. The use windowsupdate.com and install microsftupdate over this page. Then you can update step by step the OS and then exchange etc. Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > I took over an IT gig and after looking at the server there are lots > of updates to be added to the server. I don't think I am running ISA but I inherited this server from someone else.
Guest Kerry Brown Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Re: 2003 server There is not enough information here to advise you further. If you can't tell if ISA is running then I'm not sure you should be doing this. I recommend you get someone with the required knowledge in to do this. If the server has not been updated in a long time there are some pitfalls you may run into with service packs for the the server and for Exchange. Please don't take this wrong but if you can't figure out if ISA is running then you don't have the required skills to fix things if something goes wrong while installing the updates. If you are determined to do this yourself then follow the advice in the post from Meinolf Weber. That is the process you need to follow. Make sure you have good backups and know how to restore them in case something goes wrong. -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ http://vistahelpca.blogspot.com/ "frogman" <frogman7@googlemail.com> wrote in message news:fc74e76d-ce60-4159-a65f-d7c186843f7d@2g2000hsn.googlegroups.com...
