I’ve just uninstalled SP3 on my system running XP Home and as the defrag

didn’t work installed WindowsXP-KB907265-x86-ENU.exe, however when it

finished installing, this message popped up: 'KB907265 Setup Error - The

version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are

trying to install' I can't understand what this is all about - any idea

where I

went wrong please! - A

Did Windows Update offer the machine KB907265?

No - it was advice given on this page when I uninstalled sp3 and found defrag

no longer worked and was advised:

'When you installed SP3 it migrated the MMC (Microsoft Management Console)

to version 3.0. Once you removed SP3 the system doesn't roll back the MMC.

The simplest solution is to update MMC for use with Service Pack 2.

Information & Downloads here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265' - A

Re: KB907265 Setup Error!

Is MMC not working now?

The error message can mean any number of things:

1. You're not running WinXP SP2;

2. WinXP SP3 didn't uninstall properly;

3. You downloaded and attempted to install the wrong file version; and...

4. The update is already installed.

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for

Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and

e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.
