Group, I have an problem with logging in to Google websites, it includes

like google mail, orkut, groups, googlepages, google talk.... Everything was

woking fine one sudden day i lost the access... I tried with Mozilla, didnt

help, i have IE7...changed all the settings still no go....

Then i used a proxy program called Ultrasurf, which one of my friend

suggested... oh it worked.... so everytime i have to run the proxy software

to access google. This proble started when i had a dial-up connection, last

week my area got the DSL line so i switched to DSL. Even i DSL i have the

same problem... I didnt expect the problem will be solved by the DSL line,

as i know there is some thing that is blocking in my computer and not a

problem with the line....

Any suggestions....

Your question would be better asked where the IE experts hang out:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

I don't use IE7; however, your problem may have to do with the Hosts file.

You might want to Google: IE7 hosts or go here:

This Firefox page may help; the same problems could exist with IE or

other browsers, of course.

See especially:

A program like Wireshark, can be used to examine what is happening at

the Ethernet level.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireshark

One useful setting, is to set View:Name_Resolution:Enable_For_Network_Layer

to ON, so it is easier to read the packet trace.

How you'd use Wireshark is -

1) Start Wireshark. Go to Capture:Interfaces. Click Start for your Ethernet

interface.

2) Start your browser. Attempt to login to Google.

3) Once the response (or lack of response) is completed, say allow two minutes

for the browser to try, you can go back to Wireshark and select Stop. Then you

can review the results at your leisure. There may be more in the trace,

than just your attempt to reach Google. There may be traffic to a domain

server on your LAN. Or DNS activity, for IP address lookup and so on. It

will take a bit of experimenting, to figure out what parts of the Wireshark

trace, apply to your problem. But Wireshark can add to the information available,

as to the nature of the problem.
