Sebastian42 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I have found an entry for Drv in Add/Remove Programs. What might it be, or how can I find out ? Quote
KenB Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Hi, You are not giving us much to go on here. Is this the only entry - no publisher? Does it give the size of the file? Can you copy the complete details please - install date not necessary but may be of help to you identifying when it went onto your system. Sebastian42 Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 I agree - that is very little to go on - that is why I am asking for help. You may have missed that it occurs in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS - the size is shown as almost 1Mb, but there is really no other detail. Quote
KenB Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I hadn't missed that it was Add/Remove :) The only thing I can think of is that it may be related to Drivers ( Drv ) - in which case you must leave well alone. I don't have an ME machine any more so I can't check. I will look on my XP one to see if there is anything similar and get back to you. What was the date when it was installed? Jelly Bean Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 KenB you are correct it is a driver file for older windows versions and needs to be left alone.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Sebastian42 Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 KenB you are correct it is a driver file for older windows versions and needs to be left alone.... The WinXP was installed fresh in this PC, so Drv can not have been left by an older O/S. I was wrong about the lack of detail - in 'Support Information' I found a reference to "My Company Name" and a size of almost 1Mb. Since "My Company name" does not interest me in the least, I have already uninstalled it. Your prompting for info has opened for me the avenue of 'support information'. Thank you. Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The WinXP was installed fresh in this PC, so Drv can not have been left by an older O/S. XP is an older O/S if you consider that Vista and Win7 have been around for a while and Win8 is out soon. It is confusing when your details show ME as your O/S and you tell us you have XP. To clarify - Drv was linked to your computer name ( now deleted ) and NOT a driver file ?? I must check on my XP machine to see if I have something similar :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Sebastian42 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 "It is confusing when your details show ME as your O/S" I have upgraded (if you'll excuse the term) to WinXP since I registered, and since there is no prompt to update my profile, you are looking at obsolete information. I have had WinXP for many years, but did not stop using WinMe till about a year ago. "Drv was linked to your computer name" It was listed in 'Add/Remove Programs'. Its 'information' showed it to be linked to 'My Company Name' (NOT computer name) - such a program would not interest me. I agree with you that 'Drv' suggests 'Driver'. Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Thanks for the additional details. I assume that there have been no "ill effects" after deleting Drv from your system ? If not - I will mark this as "Solved" :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Sebastian42 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 There SEEM to be no ill effects from uninstalling Drv. Mark it however you think appropriate. Quote
