Guest Dab Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I have a print server with a driver installed. The server is running as a cluster. I have changed one of the settings in Printing preferences to print duplex and this works fine from the server. When I have pulled the driver over to the clients the driver not not have the Duplex tick box ticked and does not print duplex. Does antbody know why the setting is not coming across to the clients?

This is just a hunch but take a look and ensure that you're modifying the settings from the Advanced tab > Printing Defaults setting and not from the Printing Preferences settings. - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest Dab Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Re: Print drivers Thanks that worked. It was strange because i made the setting on 5 different drivers and it worked only on one. I changed the setting on the advanced-printing defaults and the setting would not change until i ticked the box in printing preferences as well. As soon as they were both ticked this worked fine. Strange. "Thee Chicago Wolf" wrote: > >I have a print server with a driver installed. The server is running as a > >cluster. Strange. One of those oddball things I guess. Glad it worked for you though! - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest Bruce Sanderson Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Re: Print drivers As I understand it, the design concept is: 1. The Properties, Advanced, Printing Defaults sets the default Printing Preferences for the printer object on the print server. 2. When a user's session first connects to a printer, these default settings are copied to the user's profile on the client computer. After that, if the user changes their Preferences (right click the printer, select Printing Preferences) they will update their own copy - this change is persistent. Changing the user's Preferences in this way does not change the default settings for the printer on the print server. This also applies to users logged on at the print server (e.g. printer administrators). A corollary of 2 is that changing the default settings on the print server (see 1) does not necessarily change the Printing Preferences set by a user that has previously had a "connection" to the printer. My experience is that printer drivers can be very idiosyncratic, not all the printer driver builders build to the same "standard" and so some printer drivers do behave differently. -- Bruce Sanderson http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
