Both of you should either pull out your Motherboard's manual or search

for it on line to find out what the beep code is telling you.

board.

Re: Bleeps on start up

"One" short beep at boot indicates that the "POST" (Power on self test) was

successful) - it's a desired beep.

Majority of motherboard manuals do not list beep codes, however the manual

will indicate the BIOS provider and a visit to their site, or Google, will

provide the meaning of "beeps".

I didn't suggest you mess with the motherboard but look up what the

motherboard is telling you. Perhaps it would be better if you take it to

someone who knows computers.

The beeps are a code. Three long beeps means one thing; two short beeps,

another. You need to find the chipset manufacturer's web site to know

what the beeps are trying to tell you.

Only one short beep? That's normal. All my computers do that. It happens

before the XP flash screen appears with the scrolling bar, right?

After the beep, you should get a black screen with Windows XP in big

letters and a scrolling bar beneath that. If you have one beep before

that and no other beeps, it's normal and you're worrying about nothing.

If it beeps once, that's what it's supposed to do. If it doesn't beep

once, you've got problems.
