corvus500 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) Hi Problem is that PC shuts down while running games, this is not a crash but PC power just turns off. PC will only restart if powerplug is removed from both wall socket and PC. These 2 jpegs show PC specs. 1st shows temp of CPU and motherboard few minutes after starting Auran Trainz Simulator. 2nd shows how much the temp was when game and whole PC froze. Could neither get screenshot or shut down. PC is defragged 3-4 times a week and error checked about 3 monthly. I run a fair few games train and aircraft sims. PC meets or exceeds reccomended specs for these. Interior of PC recently cleaned. What can I do to fix this problem. Would appreciate any help and advice. Jelly Bean Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Hello there.....Your CPU temp is to high,if the first picture is idle temps and the second is game play even at idle the CPU temps are to high..... Is your CPU cooling fan spinning? A re-application of thermal paste may help the temps especialy if the cooler has been removed and replaced at some time..... Do you have fan/cooler control on the front of your PC case? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
corvus500 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) Hi CPU fan is spinning as shown in 2nd shot almost 3000rpm. Don't know if that's too slow? How do you apply thermal paste? As I bought PC new I don't think paste has been removed. Have removed CPU fan for cleaning. There is no fan control. There is no extra fans in case only CPU, graphics and power supply fan. There is a grille with a mount for a fan on the side. Extra fan here may help a bit as it gets fairly hot here in OZ. Thanks for help. Edited November 7, 2011 by corvus500 Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Hi, hearing from others in Australia, seasonal temperatures are already very high, that means the fans are drawing in air already fairly hot unless in an air conditioned room. If you removed the fan, you just may have disturbed the seating of the heat sink (Finned aluminium or copper block) which sits on top of the CPU chip. Carefully remove the fan, then the heatsink, be very careful not to remove the CPU chip from its socket. Underneath the heatsink you should see the possible remains of a paste. Carefully clean that off, then re-apply a small amount of some new paste and refit everything, the heatsink should be a good tight fit to the top of the CPU chip to make sure it collects the heat from the chip. the thermal paste is usually available from most computer parts or spares shops or stores. Being in the UK, I know nothing of what stores are available in Oz, or on line ordering. Try to obtain Arctic cooler, and the best they do is Arctic silver, costs a little more but worth it. Let us know how you get on and if that helps. If still problems you may have to look at the possibilities of fitting an extra case fan to help keep the temperature down. Nev. Jelly Bean Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Here are instructions on how to apply thermal paste for diffrent CPUs.... http://www.arcticsilver.com/instructions.htm I would certainly think about adding a case fan to cool the internals.... Thanks Nev..x Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
corvus500 Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Since there us a place for an extra fan on the side I'll sure be putting one in. Thank for the help should be able to get back running again. Cheers Will Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Add the new fan, they are not expensive, add fresh thermal paste then recheck the temps.....Let us know how it goes.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
