XP SP3 Repeating reboots.

Is there a version of XP SP3 that already takes into account that the

original OS image file came from a computer with an Intel CPU as

opposed to an AMD CPU that is on my HP Pavilion A1520N?

I tried installing XP SP3 on my Pavilion A1520N and got the

repeating re-boot problem. I finally had to reinstall the whole OS

from the recovery disks a got from HP. I do not want to have to do

that again, and I am a bit leery of fooling around with the registry.

I'd trust Jesper's patch more than anything HP advises, but here's their

fix for it anyway :

OP mentioned having a HP Pavilion A1520N with an AMD CPU.

However, he reinstalled "the whole OS" from recovery disks he got from

HP.

I didn't know that there was something wrong with using the English

I re-installed the whole OS because I could not get into the Safe Mode

or the Recovery Partition. XP SP3 REALLY screwed up my computer.

And SP3 did NOT screw up your computer, but HP did.

The small tool of Jesper's blog *can* correct the problem caused by HP.

Use it before installing SP3.

The chain of events that cause the issue are

 

1. Build an image on an Intel box.

2. Install that image on an AMD box.

3. Attempt to install SP3 on the horked installation.

 

Do you need any other facts corrected for you to understand where the

problem arose from?
