Guest Harold A Climer Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Is there a version of XP SP3 that already takes into account that the original OS image file came from a computer with an Intel CPU as opposed to an AMD CPU that is on my HP Pavilion A1520N? I tried installing XP SP3 on my Pavilion A1520N and got the repeating re-boot problem. I finally had to reinstall the whole OS from the recovery disks a got from HP. I do not want to have to do that again, and I am a bit leery of fooling around with the registry. Harold A. Climer Dept. You could use the small tool mentioned in Jesper's blog: https://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/archive/2008/05/08/does-your-amd-based-computer-boot-after-installing-xp-sp3.aspx (Updated again on May 14) It is not an official patch, but it worked for me. -- Fred W. I'd trust Jesper's patch more than anything HP advises, but here's their fix for it anyway : HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario Desktop PCs - Computer Restarts after Displaying Stop Error 0x0000007E (After Updating with Service Pack 3 for Windows XP) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01457284&dlc=en The link to the patch is in the first Note at the above URL. I didn't know that there was something wrong with using the English language correctly. Sorry about that. I will not trouble you again. I will write in German next time. I re-installed the whole OS because I could not get into the Safe Mode or the Recovery Partition. XP SP3 REALLY screwed up my computer.

Guest Bob I Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Re: XP SP3 Repeating reboots. The chain of events that cause the issue are 1. Build an image on an Intel box. 2. Install that image on an AMD box. 3. Attempt to install SP3 on the horked installation. Do you need any other facts corrected for you to understand where the problem arose from?
