See if anything here helps,

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows

Update or

Microsoft Update to install updates

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

and/or

A Windows XP SP3-based computer loses wireless connectivity when it resumes

from standby

or from hibernation, or you receive an error message when you try to put the

computer in

standby or in hibernation

This has always been associated with Symantec products and bogus

network entries created in the registry so they did release a fix for

it here:

Device Manager may not show any devices and Network Connections may not show

any network connections after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
