Guest Enrique Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I have a user that logs on to a Windows XP box but Explorer.exe does not start so I have to manually start it. If I log on with a different profile (admin and non-admin account), Explorer.exe will start. What could be causing this within that profile? Thanks, Enrique
Guest BurrWalnut Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 RE: explorer does not start on boot Note: This problem can be caused by ‘malware’. However, try clicking Start > Run, type regedit and press Enter. In the left pane navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. In the right pane, make sure there is a REG_SZ named Shell and it has a value of "explorer.exe" (no quotation marks). If it’s not there, create it by clicking Edit > New > String Value then right-click it and key in explorer.exe then restart the computer.
