Matt190191 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hi Im having trouble with my E drive (its a system reserved drive). its full but windows says there are no files in there but I only have 404kb left in the drive for some reason I have no idea what its full with...should I just format it if it contains no files. my operating system is stored on C drive. but it became full when I booted in safemode to install anti-virus it became. I'm thinking of doing a full system restore to see if that would solve the problem. It keeps popping up in windows "E" drive is full. its not slowing down my computer or Giving me any problems but I just want to know why its full and what its full with. the E drive is a Hard-disk drive Any help would be greatly appreciated ;) Quote
KenB Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hi Mat and welcome to ExTS A "System Reserved" partition usually contains important System Files that should not be deleted. Start .....type in .....diskmgmt.msc ......ENTER Disk 0 is the Primary Drive. Is your "System Reserved" partition shown here or is it on a different Drive? How big is the "System Reserved" partition. Please describe what you see in Disk Management. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hi Matt The only thing I can make out is that "System Reserved" is a partition on your Primary Hard Drive. Can you copy the details that I cannot read please relating to that specific partition. Thanks. Matt190191 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 I took a picture of drive C and drive E for you if that helps? Quote
KenB Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 It is as I thought. It is only 100MB but contains System Boot files. You cannot delete or format it ( I doubt Windows would let you anyway ). Are you getting "Warnings" related to the partition? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Matt190191 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 I have no idea how they got in there but can I move them to drive C or something? Quote

KenB Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hi Matt The System Reserved Partition is created when the OS is installed. It is needed - as stated earlier. As far as I know it is not added to. Did you allocate the Drive Letter or has it always been E:\ ? EDIT: Our posts crossed. The first post in the link was from a MS MVP ( who should know what he is talking about ). He seems to be agreeing with what I have said. Matt190191 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 No i think E has always been empty to my knowledge at least it was never full anyway Quote
KenB Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 This wasn't what I was asking. Have you altered the System Reserved partition at any time? Allocated the letter E:\ to it ? Matt190191 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 "Did you allocate the Drive Letter or has it always been E:\ ?" no its always been kept the same the drive became full when i booted in safemode for some reason Quote
Matt190191 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 "This wasn't what I was asking. Have you altered the System Reserved partition at any time? Allocated the letter E:\ to it ?" No I wouldn't know how to but I'm not the only one who uses the computer so there could be a possibility of someone changing it yes. is there any way to change it back? do you know Quote
KenB Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 OK To recap: The System Reserved partition is installed by Windows when it is first installed. It contains System Files that are necessary to boot up the OS. These Files are not visible and cannot be accessed. The System Reserved partition can not be expanded into the C:\ partition - so cannot be made bigger. It cannot be deleted or formatted. (To do this is far too complex to explain here.) So, to conclude, ....... The partition cannot be touched. I hope this helps. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
