hardware_dave Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I have heard that dell psu's have a couple of pins swaped round, dont use them in a non dell pc, even if the plug fits. Dave Quote Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 If you can make absolutely certain that this is the case Dave then I'll sticky it. Quote
hardware_dave Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 It may just be myth, I have no definitive source. However it has been reported on dltv and a few random websites I have visited. Dave Quote Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity
Guest imported_Mike Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Unfortunately if you study the Dell main and auxiliary connector pinouts I've listed here and compare them to the industry standard ATX pinouts listed earlier, you'll see that not only are the voltage and signal positions changed, but the number of terminals carrying specific voltages and grounds has changed as well. It would be possible to modify a Dell supply to work with a standard ATX board, or to modify a standard ATX supply to work with a Dell board, but you'd have to do some cutting and splicing in addition to swapping some terminals around. Usually it wouldn't be worth the time and effort. Source.. Third paragraph from the bottom Quote
hardware_dave Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 Thaks mike, I could not find a definitive source. They could have modified the connector to stop this problem ! Dave Quote Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

timez Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 If anyone has a Dell PSU and a multimeter - and would be willing to test it with it - we will have our answer. Quote
