Guest oldpink Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I hope someone, can help me out here. When I start my computer, a blank black screen comes up, with the following erroe message on it. "windows could not start because of an error in the software, load needed DLLs for kernel" Is there a way to fix this problem? Is there a way to get in to my system, to restore to a previous date, or to fix this problem? I do not have a XP recovery disc, as computer came with XP installed, is there a place to purchase an XP recover disc, if I need that? Anyone who can help, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

You could press F8 during the early boot phase, then select one of the alternative boot options. About recovering your installation: Every PC sold with Windows must have one of the following: - A WinXP installation CD. - A Recovery CD. - A boot CD that launches a recovery program stored on a hidden partition of the hard disk. You need to read the manual to see which option applies in your case. Before starting the recovery process, remember that some of these processes will erase all data currently stored on the disk. If you don't have backups (including your EMail files!) then you must extract all data before starting the recovery.

So I ordered the boot disc from HP, so I hope that helps. How do you extract all your data, before recovery, though, especially when I can't access Windows, to back anything up? Thanks for the help.

There are several methods to retrieve your data. - From your backup medium. If you don't believe in backing up your important files regularly (e.g. weekly) then this is a good time to reconsider. A 2.5" disk in an external USB\ case is a low-cost but highly effective backup device. Or do you want to wait until the next disaster hits you? - By temporarily installing the hard disk as a slave disk in some other Win2000/XP machine, then copying the files to a hard disk on that machine. - By booting the machine with a Bart PE boot CD, then copying the files to the 2.5" disk that you're about to buy. The Bart PE boot disk is a very handy tool to have. It is free but to make one requires the following: - A WinXP Professional CD (but no product key) - A CD burner - About four hours of your time.
