Guest Vishal Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Hi, I have a windows 2003 server domain controller which has DHCP installed. I see their is a backup option - under what circumstances would somebody do a backup of the DHCP server? Thanks
Guest Phillip Windell Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Re: DHCP Backup It gets backed up everytime you do a backup of the server. If it gets screwed up just grab the dhcp.mdb file from you most recent backup. It is kept in C:\Windows\system32\dhcp The DHCP Service also keeps a backup of itself in C:\Windows\system32\dhcp\backup if I am not mistaken I should have listed this first,..but here is the correct approach to dealing with this: How to move a DHCP database from a computer that is running Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 to a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325473 -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- "Vishal" <Vishal@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E694C2C8-6729-4402-A023-3EC73533B891@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I have a windows 2003 server domain controller which has DHCP installed. > > I see their is a backup option - under what circumstances would somebody > do > a backup of the DHCP server? > > Thanks

Guest Vishal Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Re: DHCP Backup Hi, You mentioned that it gets backed up "when you do a backup of the server" which backup are you referring to - the system state backup or what? Thanks
Guest Phillip Windell Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Re: DHCP Backup No, system state backs up the Registry. Any normal backup that includes the "*/system32/dhcp" folder will backup the DHCP.mdb file. If you also did the builtin back abiltiy of the DHCP Service itself then it creates the backup folder at "*/system32/dhcp/backup" with a copy of the database below that,...which now leaves you with two copies of the database if you run a tape backup. -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- "Vishal" <Vishal@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:367EAEA0-1BE6-437E-9DA0-CF0D382701DA@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > You mentioned that it gets backed up "when you do a backup of the server" > > which backup are you referring to - the system state backup or what? > > Thanks
