Getting DVD drive to update directory

I'm running XP pro. At times I have problems getting the DVD drive to

update its directory. I try all sorts of refreshing but ending up booting

my machine. This is kind of over kill. What simplier way is there to force

an update? I do not have any sort of auto play turned on. (DVDs were burned

as data DVDs with Nero.)
