Guest Ed from AZ Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I'm sorry this is such a mundane and simple question. But every time my laptop fires up, it gives me messages about wireless network availability and connections, antivirus update status, and sundry other things, all with the little balloons from the icons on the right end of the Taskbar. They take a long time to go away - just about as long as it takes to "X" out each and every one!! Is there one simple setting that will turn all these off? Ed

Take your pick. 1. Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft. TweakUI is available here. Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Direct Download of TweakUI http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe Once the program is installed, go to Start -> All Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP -> TweakUI. In TweakUI, click on Taskbar and Start Menu. In the right hand pane, remove the check mark from the box next to "Enable balloon tips". Click OK. 2. Follow the directions in this Microsoft article. HOW TO: Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307729 3. Run the script on line 11, left hand column from this web site. Courtesy of Kelly Theriot, MS-MVP Enable/Disable Balloon Tips http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Note: You may have to go into your Network Connections folder to turn off some of the messages you're getting about your wireless connection. Go to Control Panel and double click on the Network Connections icon. In the Network Connections folder, right click on the icon that represents your wireless connection and select Properties from the menu. Remove the check mark from the box next to "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity". Click OK. Good luck Nepatsfan
