Aldaz108 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hi I just got my pc upgraded I went on a game and I noticed my pc got really hot it was radiator hot! the metal on the top of my pc actualy got a bit soft! I dont know what this is here are my specs GTX 560 AMD Atholon x4 Big power supply (Sorry I dont know what type it is just I know its big inside) 8gig 64bit windows Quote
KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hi the metal on the top of my pc actualy got a bit soft! This is a bit worrying if it is happening. The case will be made from aluminium. Melting Point in the region of 660 deg C. If the heat is changing the structure of the case ( Softening ) it must be pretty hot !! Is the case hot above the Power Supply Unit - or is it somewhere else ? Please identify exactly where on the case is getting hot. I suggest that you limit the use of the pc until we identify the source of the heat. Aldaz108 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 yeah the power supply is pretty close to the case Quote
Aldaz108 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 will getting another fan Help this problem? Quote
KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Download Speccy from here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy Install and run it. It will give you lots of system info - and the motherboard and CPU temps. 1. Post the temps when the machine is not under any load ( not playing games ) 2. If you leave Speccy running and play a game - post the different temps now please. 3. Is the case just hot in one specific place ( above the PSU ) or is it hot over the whole of the top. Heat will travel - so is it the same temperature over the whole of the top? will getting another fan Help this problem? Possibly - it really depends on how hot your case is getting and what is causing it to get hot. Neil Cooper Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) are you using a Stock CPU cooling Fan? a fan that came with the computer usally if its a AMD system they say AMD on the fan? there normal operating tempertures for you CPU and Motherboard far as i know specially if you using a stock CPU cooling fan (look above for example)http://www.jbtech.com/shop/images/atrex/cpu%20fan%20amd.jpg and for your Graphics card (what game are you running at the time you got these temps) the more immersive games can heat ur card high (mine runs about 46 degrees in idle just at the desktop) ive just looked ur Graphics specs your save to reach 99c http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-geforce-gtx-560ti-us.html One question and only do this if you feel safe doing, dont do it if you have no idea what you doing! just take the side panel off you computer (if ur looking directly head on to ur computer should be the left side panel) and tell us ur PSU power in WATTS, hight Wattage usually means highier tempertures but should not be burning hot , also put ur hand at the back of the PSU there sould be a fan on tell us if its working. as ur the temps you have put down are normal id say has to be ur PSU......... Make sure you unplug the power cord from your computer.. you say you had the computer upgraded did you also have the PSU upgraded and if so to what Wattage, what game did you use and for how long did you run the game for? One extra question where do you have Fans and were do you have spare fan vents? Aldaz108 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 yeah my PSU was upgraded for the new graphics card I Cant take the side pannel off btw can I ask one question though would a fan keep this all cool like a extra fan? Quote
Neil Cooper Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) it depends i would say buying one would keep the components like ur CPU and the internals a bit cooler but not much cooler its all about the air flow, just like how heat rises, but id say if its getting that hot and its affecting just the top of you case its the PSU and it just being upgraded means there more chance of that. PSU's are fitted with there own fans mine has two one thats visible inside the case and one thats blowing the hot air out the back if they failed or even just one the temp would get seriously hot its why there there. so adding a fan to ur case isnt going to solve that problem. you PSU getting that hot to me is either a Faulty fan or a Faulty PSU Put ur hand to the back of you computer were the PSU is and tell me if you can feel the "warm" air coming out. It should just be Warm not hot tell me if its HOT or if its WARM air thats being vented? Is ur graphics card 72c idle or 72c while running games? and like Ken said is it just were ur PSU is? if its getting that hot its dangerious protenchially a fire hazard as cables burn. KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I Cant take the side pannel off You are going to have to gain access to the inside of your case if you want answers. 1. As Neil says - those temps look normal ......apart from the Video Card ( It depends what you were doing ). 2. The video card is unlikely to create that much heat to cause the case to "soften". This is an aluminium case isn't it ? 3. The wattage of the PSU does not necessarily mean that it will throw out all 750W. The components draw what they need. We do need to know what the Wattage is though - to see if it is appropriate for your Video Card and system. Please try to gain access to your case otherwise we are at a stand-still. Neil Cooper Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 i think he cant take it off because ?won't this void any warranty? of the company that carried out the upgrade? just a guess ive never delt with being sent away for upgrades sorry if this is wrong........ as like i said there all normal Temps thanks for correcting me Ken on the graphics card.
