graham_the_next_DX Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hello, im not very experienced in this but I was hoping to upgrade to the nvidia geforce gtx 560 ti 1gb, and i just wanted to know if itd run on my PC and that my PSU would be powerful enough. heres my specs: HP Pavilion Elite HPE-590UK Cleveland Motherboard Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.4Ghz 8 GB ram NVIDIA GeForce GT420 2gb currentlyhttp://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02682170&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=5035344&prodTypeId=12454 thanks Graham Quote
KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hi Graham and welcome to ExTS Thank you for the link - it certainly saved my time looking for the specs. You have a PCIe x 16 slot on the motherboard. This is where your present card will be situated. The nvidia geforce gtx 560 ti 1gb is PCIe so it will be a direct swap. Note: It needs 2 PCIe 6 pin power connectors ( supplied from PSU ) From what I can discover - it requires a PSU with a minimum of 500Watts Your present PSU falls just short. If you are considering upgrading the PSU I would certainly consider 700Watts or more. It is a wide card and will block the expansion slot immediately next to the PCIe x 16 slot. So then I guess I will have to replace my PSU too,, any ideas on which one,, or where to get it from? and is it easy to change?? Sorry, while I know enough of the software side of things,, this is where I get stuck... :/ Thanks again for your help Graham Hi Graham and welcome to ExTS Thank you for the link - it certainly saved my time looking for the specs. Neil Cooper Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Hi Graham, welcome to FPCH Your Power supply wouldn't be powerful under the Nvidia Recommened Power supply wattage sorry. Below is the recommended PSU 500w you existing PSU is only 460w also you will need a PSU that has 2 6-pin pci-e power connections to run the nvidia geforce gtx 560 ti 1gb. i can give you the link to some PSU's (This is the sort of PSU you want look at http://www.ebuyer.com/269259-corsair-600w-cx-series-v2-psu-6x-sata-2x-pci-e-cmpsu-600cxv2uk or http://www.ebuyer.com/174182-ocz-modxstream-pro-600w-psu-80-sli-certified-atx12v-ocz600mxsp-uk second is better) Thermal and Power Specs Nvidia:

Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 99 C

Graphics Card Power (W) 170 W

Minimum Recommended System Power (W) 500 W

Supplementary Power Connectors Two 6-pin

Edited November 15, 2011 by Neil Cooper Quote * Windows 7 Ultimate - AMD Athlon 64 x2 3.0GHz - 2GB RAM - 1TB HDD Sata - XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770** H - 01001000. graham_the_next_DX Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Ahh you guys are amazing :) so would something like this be ok?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATX-700W-PC-GAMING-POWER-SUPPLY-COMPUTER-PSU-SATA-X-2-/200637842422?pt=UK_Computing_PowerSupplies_EH&hash=item2eb6f283f6 and my final question I promise :) do you think with the additional power, I would need additional cooling?? I dont game that often, but the last thing I want is for my pc to burn out.... Thank you so much, already you've helped me with loads of issues I had Hi Graham, welcome to FPCH Your Power supply wouldn't be powerful under the Nvidia Recommened Power supply wattage sorry. KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 any ideas on which one Where is the position of the fan on your present PSU ? ( back / top / side ) Your PSU dimensions: Dimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm Your case is a Mid ATX and your PSU from the sizes - is a standard ATX PSU. do you think with the additional power, I would need additional cooling?? No The Video Card is self-cooling. The PSU will not run significantly hotter. You could - later on - fit another fan if the temps were too high .....but unlikely. Neil Cooper Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Please note; only one 6-pin connector on that PSU you need 2. KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 As Neil says - that PSU only has 1 PCIe 6 pin connectors. It does, however, have 3 Molex power connections ( They usually have more ) You can get a Molex to 6 pin PCIe adapter - but you need 2 spare Molex Connections. I don't like making recommendations as normally members have a budget. I would suggest buying OCZ / Antec / Corsair You have to pay more but a decent PSU is a must as everything in the case relies on it. They are, however, more expensive. If you want to go cheaper I suggest that you read the reviews. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! graham_the_next_DX Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 I think the fan is located on the side... and does that mean the psu wont fit in the case,, ad is that the PSU i selected, or the one that Neil chose?? Same again with the 6 pin connectors... Cheers guys!! Where is the position of the fan on your present PSU ?
