Subbleton Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Recently went for a ram upgrade from 2x2gb sticks to 4x2gb. Went with same sticks I already had (corsair vengence), slotted them in no problems and checked bios- all sticks found and timings correct. All seemed fine for a few hours then bsod started. Count is at 3 so far and a few crashes from ram intensive apps like Skyrim, graphics editing ect. Could i have a bad ram stick as same make/model as existing and had no dramas with them? Tried running memtest and clocked up 6 errors in 20mins. All failiers to read between ram. Also not sure if its relevent but my clocking software cant detect a manufacture date for the 2 new sticks. If someone tells me how can post info on bsod (all successfully dumped physical memory if thats the term) Any advice on how to proceed welcome. KenB Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hi It looks like one of the new modules may be faulty. Go back to the original 2 and run the system to make sure that they, at least, are OK. If they are, add one of the new modules ( not both ) Run the system again. If it runs OK - take this module out and put in the other module. If you get a Blue Screen with any of the single additions you have found the problem module. Subbleton Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Aye suspected as much but wanted a 2nd (and more knowledgeable) opinion. Tried the origional 2 sticks for 3 passes of memtest and no problems. Yet to test new two individually as suspect amazon will want both returned together as they are part of one package. Yet again a fast and helpful response from fpch forums, thanks. Quote
KenB Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 suspect amazon will want both returned together I would be inclined to give them a ring. Usually they can direct you to a printable label ( postage paid ) for the return. I would return both and get a direct replacement.
