Guest Mitchb12 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I'm running Windows XP SP2 Sometimes the computer runs for awile other times almost immediately I get a blue screen with: Tech Information *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, ox82117731, 0xF8ADAC3C, 0x00000000) Begining dump of physical memory Physical Memory dump complete Contact your system administrator or tech support group for furthur assisatnce. I've done a windows restore back as far as possible. I've gone into msconfig and unselected all the startup items. I've gone into devmgmt.msc and disabled the display and network adaptors. The computer will work in Safe Mode, but if I go into any other mode such as Safe Mode with Networking I get the blue screen. Any thoughts on what to do next? -- Mitch
Guest Gerry Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Re: Blue Screen Stop 0x0000008E If you can consistently access in Safe this tends to point to a software driver which loads in normal mode but not safe mode. Background information on Stop Error message 0x8E http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794023.aspx 0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn't catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade). Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code? Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked. -- Hope this helps. Guest Mitchb12 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Re: Blue Screen Stop 0x0000008E There are no yelllow question marks in Device Manager. I ran sigverif.exe and everrthing is signed. Since it works in Safe Mode but not Safe Mode with Networking, it must be whatever XP does differrently in those 2 startups. -- Mitch "Gerry" wrote: > If you can consistently access in Safe this tends to point to a software > driver which loads in normal mode but not safe mode. > > Background information on Stop Error message 0x8E > http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794023.aspx > > 0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED > A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler > didn't catch. Guest jc11 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Re: Blue Screen Stop 0x0000008E I have the exact same issue as Mitchb12 and checked the device manager (no yellow question marks) but do have 2 unsigned drivers (syntpco2.dll and omci.sys). Any recommendations on what I should do next? Thank you. Guest Gerry Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Re: Blue Screen Stop 0x0000008E Please post a complete copy of the Stop Error Report. Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before Automatically Restart. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure. Check for variants of the Stop Error message. Does the problem occur dring the boot process or after? Does it occur in Safe Mode? What is your computer make and model? syntpco2.dll http://www.programchecker.com/publisher/229.aspx omci.sys http://www.file.net/process/omci.sys.html They probably have nothing to do with the problem. What errors appear in Event Viewer? Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer relating to the last boot in normal mode . No Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in a previous boot. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. -- Hope this helps.
