steph Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I just got a new laptop (well, new for me, it was secondhand) I have tried to put a couple of cd's and dvd's in the cs-rw drive, but it won't recognise them :? It just says "Please insert a disk into Drive E" and then it pops open. Any ideas how I can fix this? I don't really fancy having to have an external one lol. Is it something a complete moron (i.e me) would be able to fix or will I need to take it somewhere to be fixed? If I did need to take it to be fixed, any idea how much that would cost? Quote

steph Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Hi Steph and welcome to ExTS Start > type in .......devmgmt.msc ........ENTER Click the + next to DVD CDROM Are there any yellow exclamation marks / red Xs ? What is listed ? No exclamation marks or x's or anything. It just says "MAT****A UJDA330 ATA Device" I tried a few things from this page http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-hardware/my-disc-drive-wont-read-discswhat-should-i-do/676c416a-e350-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5 I tried the updating software thing but it just said that the drive was fine and didn't need to update it. I didn't try uninstalling it and rebooting, because I don't know how to install it again if I uninstall it. I downloaded and tried microsoft fixit, but that didn't help either, it said that there was 1 problem that needed fixed. But it didn't fix it or tell me how to fix it /facepalm Quote
KenB Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hi Steph, Go back to devmgmt again and right click on your drive > Uninstall. Reboot the system. Windows will detect "new hardware" and auto install the drivers. Try it again. If that doesn't work take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 Scroll down to Windows Vista - Delete upper and lower filters from the registry. The FixIt should have done this so don't be surprised if they are not there. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
