Guest carl43m Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I have an older desktop with windows XP Home operating system. Recently I took an old laser printer(9 years old) and hooked it directly to the pc. The mfg. web site (Xerox) shows that it did not have a driver for xp or vista for this printer. However, after I hooked up the printer to the pc , it works. I went to control panel/system/hardware/device manager to see what driver might be available to run the printer. However, there was no category for imaging devices which would seem to indicate no driver was loaded for the printer. Does anyone know why this printer is working for me as it doesn't look like there is any driver on the pc to make the printer run? Thanks.
Guest Bob I Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Re: Printer driver confusion Try looking in the Print Server Properties to see what driver is being used. Printers do not normally show up in Device Manager, unless they are "Plug and Play." The printer always show up in the "Printers and Faxes" in Control Panel. You PC just may happen to have a compatible driver already installed. Several laser printer might be directly compatible with a standard HP Laserjet II driver.
