Hi,

Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc.......ENTER

Click the + next to Sound / Video / Game

Right click on what is listed for "sound" > uninstall.

Reboot.

Windows should detect "New hardware" and you should get the opportunity to point it to the drivers that you have just downloaded.

Let me know how you get on with this.

any similar software that is free to use??

Sorry - I was not aware the link I gave you was not free. My mistake.

Realtek AC97 are general purpose drivers.

Try this link: Use the green d/l button

Hi, I can't find any details regarding this Ksproxy, are you sure you have managed to get the full name?

I am a little concerned about the restore CD you used as you say you bought the machine second hand with no disks, so can you tell us what this restore disk is, and where you got it please.

It is vaguely possible it is something malware related, as on your other thread you are saying that no drivers can be installed.

hi nev, yes thats the full name of the file in question... the cd was just an old CD my brother had lying around that i believe he had from a pc from long ago... probably not the best idea in the 1st place but it was a last resort before binning the HD because it was badly virus ridden..

I am thinking that is the answer to all the problems, especially if the disk was not a Dell one.

Your best bet now may be to write or E Mail at least to Dell requesting replacement disks. You will need the full model name and number, also if it is still stuck on the case, the service tag number. It will cost, but hopefully not too much.

Otherwise it will mean buying a new full XP disk, if there are any still around, and installing from scratch.

Hi,

Go here and let Dell scan your system for the Service Tag.

Use this and see which drivers it comes up with for your system.

EDIT:

Ignore this - I missed the other posts.

I will get back to you.

Nev's advice regarding the recovery disks is good.

The .AX file extension is related to Video Playback Programs like Quick Time.

You could try running CCleaner.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

DO NOT use the registry option - run it on default settings.

Found this:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd388914(v=vs.85).aspx

The language is technical - but the ksproxy.ax file is a genuine one.

Will pick this up again tomorrow.
