Advice please, problem driving me nuts

Windows XP SP3

 

My computer was going extremely slow and begining to become un useable. I

read some of the replies to similar problems so I uninstalled the Norton

Security, downloaded AVG anti-virus and anti spyware from Windows.

 

I turned the computer off then on again the next day and it worked with no

problems for an hour then the extreme slowness returned. What else can be

causing it?

What is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean,

what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

look at Task Manager and see what programs are hogging the cpu.
