Guest Zeether Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Sometimes, when I start up Windows XP, the taskbar changes to the classic Windows 98 style one and then Windows XP crashes. When I restart it says that winlogon.exe encountered an error. I looked up this and found out that I had to run sfc/scannow with the XP disc to make sure no files were modified. This worked but it seems to be a temporary fix because the problem has been happening again. I already found and deleted a duplicate of winlogon so I know there are no dupes involved. Can anyone help me?
Guest Andrew E. Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 RE: XP crashes on startup Once thru with Sfc,you should run in cmd:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart, type:EXIT Restart pc.Also, with the 98 style problem,R.click the desktop, properties, display, desktop, customize, web tab, locate & chk the box "lock desk- top items",close out.You might also, open task bar/start icon in control-panel,edit as needed.
