I have checked the MS site and it performs the usual inspection of my Win XP

for updates, then shows that I should download SP3 and indicates that I

cannot get any more updates until SP3 is installed. Is this correct please?

I am not too enthusiastic about installing SP3 in case it gives my desktop

indigestion, although I have a MS CD of SP3 standing by! Advice would be

helpful please.

Re: Windows Updates

According to your post's headers...

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3138

X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.3198

....your WinXP SP2 machine is fully patched and the only available update is

WinXP SP3. When future updates are available (e.g.,

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-aug.mspx), Windows

Update/Automatic Updates will offer them to you without SP3 installed.

However, there will come a time (i.e., April or May 2010) when you will have

to have SP3 installed in order for any further updates to be offered to the

machine.
