Guest Re-enable Welcome Screen & Switch User Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 With help from a Dell telephone tech, I repaired my system with the OS CD, safe mode, and running chkdsk/r after a power failure. But now when I turn the computer on, I do not get the Welcome Screen; instead I get a box into which I must type the user name and password. I called Dell again , and they looked at various items that I do not understand, but they have no idea about a solution except to wipe the hard disk and reinstall everything. To switch users, I have to log off entirely and use the box, which is annoying since the first user must reload everything. When I try "switch user" from the start tab or from the task manager, I get the sign-in box again, even though "welcome screen" and "fast switch user" are enabled for each user. What happened? How do I regain access to the welcome screen and switch user features without reinstalling XP Professional and the past 6 years of my life?
Guest Rey Santos Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 RE: Lost access to "welcome screen" and "switch user" features It could the classic logon box you are getting, although enabling "welcome screen" and "fast switch user" should got rid of it. See the link bellow if it conforms to your registry. If the Value data for is 0 (Classic Mode ) change it to to 1. There is a menu for logging on/off you can adjust. Also, what happens if you use the keyboard and press the "windows"+L keys. Does this give you more logon options? -- Semper Fi
Guest Re-enable Welcome Screen & Switch User Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 RE: Lost access to "welcome screen" and "switch user" features I tried this and it did not change over to the welcome screen. I still habve to log off entirely to switch user. Guest Re-enable Welcome Screen & Switch User Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Re: Lost access to "welcome screen" and "switch user" features The windows+L combination returns me to the user ID/pasword box that I am trying to get rid of.
