Remote Desktop in Vista

Recommended Posts

I am trying to connect to an XP Pro machine from a Vista Home Premiuim

machine via Remote Desktop Connection. It works just fine behind my router or

without it when I try to connect from a Windows 2000 machine. So that leaves

me with the indication that there is a setting in Vista that is blocking it.

I get the message "can't connect to the remote computer." Any thoughts on how

to fix this?

I forget does Vista's firewall prevent outgoing calls as well? I don't seem

to have any issues with Vista going to WinXP that I can think of or vice

versa.

Re: Remote Desktop in Vista

On top of that, try to telnet to port 3389 and see if you connect.

As Jeff said - I would check the firewall to see that nothing's blocked

going out... I would also see if you have any other software such as

anti-virus that contains a firewall component that could be stopping it...

Good Luck,

Jon

Re: Remote Desktop in Vista

'telnet 1.2.3.4 3389'

from a remote client, to see if the connection is accepted by the TS. That's

meant by Jeff!
