Guest proinwv Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 In trying to run XP Pro SP3 I receive the message , "setup cannot copy wextract.exe" What does this mean, and what do I need to do about it??
Guest Muzafar Ganie Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 RE: setup cannot copy wextract.exe With XP you should find an exact back-up file of wextract.exe located in your WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder that you can copy into your WINDOWS\system32 folder. otherwise you can copy the file from the window xp disk as well put the windows xp disk and then follow the steps to copy the file step1: start->run->type cmd and click on ok in command prompt type expand (drive letter of cd-rom like E or D):\i386\wextract.ex_ c :\windows\system32\wextract.exe press enter -------------------------------------------- Muzafar
Guest proinwv Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 RE: setup cannot copy wextract.exe Muzafar Ganie I tried this and, 1- the file is not in the system32 folder 2-with the second method I get the message returned, "the system cannot find the path specified" By the way, even though I originaly recieved the error that I posted, I rebooted and all seems to be working. Can you help with this?? Is there actually a problem? What concerned me was when the file originally failed to copy, that I received a message that SP3 might be unstable.
Guest Muzafar Ganie Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 RE: setup cannot copy wextract.exe Hi, No need to worry If every thing is work fine. Run the online scan from the microsoft website http://www.safety.live.com Becouse most of the forums talk about the spyware or virus possibility Muzafar
Guest proinwv Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 RE: setup cannot copy wextract.exe I ran the scan and it seems to be ok. I guess I'll not worry unless there is a future problem. Thanks
