Yes there are better ways of uninstalling like using things such as

ZSoft's Uninstaller.

He asked for a BETTER way. Your response can lead to disaster.

How so? Add/Remove Programs historically can't clean up after itself.

Thus why many programs add a shortcut to uninstall itself under

Start -> Programs.

Re: Screen in Win'XP that lists all open progams!

That very simply is not true. The whole purpose of Add/Remove is to

completely clean the system including the registry

when deleting a program. Non MS programs aren't written correctly to do

that. However your solution is far worse.

No! You are wrong! And I am so sure, I'll bet you $500 that you are

wrong! Just Google Add/remove didn't and there are over a million hits.

Not necessarily true, and very often not true. Sometimes it completely

uninstalls them. Sometimes (often) it leaves left-over registry

entries. But those left-over entries don't hurt you.

> And it is the

> only way I know of that does. Do ypu know of a better way?

Note that what Add/Remove programs does is invoke the program's own

uninstall routine. If the program comes with an uninstall routine, you

can either use Add/Remove Programs or run the uninstall directly from

the folder it's installed in. Doing it directly isn't any *better*

than Add/Remove programs, but it's the same.

If the program doesn't come with an uninstall, there will be no entry

in Add/Remove Programs.

Yes, but that's not the issue. The main topic talks about Task Manager and

its various utilities, two of which are terminating applications and

terminating processes. Add or Remove Programs removes the applications from

your system altogether. That is not the topic of this thread.

NO, YOU'RE WRONG!!! (ROFL!!!)

Any such applications (uninstallers, clean-up tools, Registry cleaners,

etc.), which ALL primarily *guess* in order to make decisions, are disasters

waiting (IMPATIENTLY, I might add) to happen.

Really? I saw it once since '81 with my first personal computer. Never with

22 is still a pitiful sample. It also implies that you are REALLY hard on

computers! You buy or build a new computer every nine months? For personal

use? That doesn't speak well of your computer maintenance habits.

And you're a downright LIAR when you imply that you've used ZSoft

Uninstaller since '81. The author didn't even produce the first version

until 4 years ago.

Obviously a mistake in math there, but even then...

No actually Gary, I buy cheap and often. And those 22 computers, 20 of them

still work fine. They are just outdated and not as useful compared to the

latest group of computers I have. I have also used more than one computer to

multitask and I continue this practice to this very day.

Yes it helps greatly since multitasking OS, but one task still can hog the

whole CPU time. Video converting and sometimes real time video recording

comes to mind. Burning CD/DVD also comes to mind. Also when you do updates

or installing some applications, requires rebooting sometimes. With multiple

computers, I'm always up 24/7. Which is far better than most corporations

can say.

I also find that having more than one computer is very useful in case

disaster strikes. Say a hard drive fails, RAM going bad, motherboard

failure, install disaster, etc. I am still up and running regardless.

Actually in all of these years, I only had two hard drives fail (both in the

90's) and only one memory stick gone bad. I guess the moral of the story is

be prepared and then you have nothing to worry about it.

I don't know how you got the idea that I have been using ZSoft since '81. As

I only have been using it for the last few years. I find it to be a

wonderful piece of software. I never seen it screw anything up yet. ;-)
