FIX: Post XP SP3 application, all updates fail to install

After the application of SP3 all subsequent Automatic updates may fail

to install. Also applies to a clean or a repair installation of XP:

 

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from

Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new

Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

Try Method 1 first. This *usually* resolves the update installation issue.
