Littleoz Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 For no apparent reason these Zipped Folder began to appear on the Local Drive "C". Has anyone have any idea how they came to appear and what in the world are they for. Can I delete them? They just keep on appearing. Quote
KenB Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you activated any backup software recently? Do they appear once per day - or when you are doing a specific task? The file name - does this relate to the date it was created ? Have you tried deleting the oldest? Littleoz Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you activated any backup software recently? Do they appear once per day - or when you are doing a specific task? The file name - does this relate to the date it was created ? Have you tried deleting the oldest? Nah, I just noticed these zipped folders when I browsing the Local Drive C folder, and this time I noticed that another four folder had been added. I was going to delete the lot, as there appears to be no reason for this folder at all. They date of creation is all different dates, and I have no idea of any action taken, but I did open a notebook type file, which contains long lines of functions, and it does make a mention to my Trend security programme. By viewing the contents of that Notebook file would you get any idea what in the world is in all about? Thanks Quote
KenB Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Post the file - it may help. I am not familiar with Trend -but is there a setting that stores details of scans to a specific location ? I think you may have hidden files and folders set to show. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx?mfr=true I'm using Win Xp and went into Control Panel and Folders and was unsure of what do when I got there. But, I realised that I could get the same information through:click Start, click Search, click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options. Click to select the Search system folders and Search hidden files and folders check boxes. I've attached the SEARCH results and those ZIPPED ACER-PC folders were listed. Quote
Littleoz Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 No worries, I posted another attachment of the search of the HIDDEN Files and Folders and those same ZIPPED folders came up. I'm non-the-wiser now! I thought this forum was a Acer PC forum. I might as well take it to Acer and see if they got an answer, and if I take it to my antivirus spt, I will go on a set merry-go-round that leads nowhere. Thanks. Quote
KenB Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 but I did open a notebook type file, I thought you were posting this ?? The dates on the right of your attachment are not daily. Click on one of the zipped folders and try to open it in Notebook. Post the contents here please - if you can open it. KenB Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 There must be a setting in your Trend Micro that is sending the scan logs to your desktop. See here: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/solution/en-us/1059509.aspx In answer to your original question - "Can I delete them" the answer is "Yes" Until you find the setting that directs these logs to a Trend folder and not the desktop you will get a zip file appear after every scan by the looks of it. I will try to locate a manual - it may be easier if you take a look at the options within Trend itself. I assume that you have knowingly installed Trend Micro ? I have just downloaded it onto my laptop. It has run a scan and saved the results in a zipped file similar to yours - but not on my desktop. There doesn't seem to be any options / settings with this. Do you need this on your system ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

KenB Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Hi, So what antivirus do you use? I use Microsoft Security Essentials - free from MS. There are a couple of other good free ones too - Avira and Avast. If Trend is what you have been using it may be beneficial to dump it and use one of these.
