Why Can't I Sign In to Windows Vista Community?

I have a NET Passport and can, and always have, successfully Sign In to the

Windows XP Newsgroups.

However, when I want to ask a question in the Windows Vista Community it

fails to Sign me in or post a New Question. All it does is return to the same

page after a long delay, with me still Signed Out. Sometimes, usually on the

1st attempt of the session, it does display the Login page but ignores it;

more often it does absolutely nothing.

Sometimes closing and reopening WinMail fixes this.

WinMail? I don't have that.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I'm running on XP (altho same thing

happens on my Vista laptop) and trying to post a question on the Windows

Vista Community via the Web Browser interface. I can successfully post to the

XP Newsgroups immediately before and after my unsuccessful attempts to the

Vista Community; as witnessed by these 2 posts here.

Forgot where I was.

You must be using IE to access newsgroups. Try using Outlook Express:

In Outlook Express go to Tools | Accounts | Add (or New) | News.

Set up an account for this news server:

msnews.microsoft.com

The server is free and does not require you to logon. This news server

carries over 2200 newsgroups related to Microsoft products and keeps

messages at least 30 days.

For more detail see

And here are two articles Tom Koch wrote about using newsgroups in Outlook

Express:

Re: Why Can't I Sign In to Windows Vista Community?

Thanks Frank.

Are you saying I cannot now use IE, my preferred and long-standing method,

for accessing VISTA newsgroups, and must use OE for these groups?

Why is this when :

1) I can still use IE to search & POST to these XP Newsgroups, as I am doing

at this moment?

2) I can use IE to search the VISTA community, but am prevented to POSTING

to it?

I am perfectly happy to use IE to access M/S newsgroups as I've done for

years and have no wish to be forced to revert to OE.

You will find the newsreader process provided by Outlook Express to be far

superior for accessing newsgroups. Try it! You will really like it.

Re: Why Can't I Sign In to Windows Vista Community?

Thanks, I am fully aware that an email client is able to act as a newsgroup

reader.

I just prefer using the Web for this purpose.

Am I being prevented from doing this for the VISTA newsgroups? Why?

I don't know. Probably the Microsoft servers screwed up again.
