Guest LuDean Marvin Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I have four "NetWork Setup Wizard" icons in my Control panel. Does anyone have any idea how the three duplicates got there or how I might get rid of them? Thanks to any suggestions!
Guest Ramesh, MS-MVP Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: duplicate icons in Control Panel Look for duplicate copies of "netsetup.cpl" (with different names, of course) in the Windows\System32 folder, and delete the redundant ones. Guest LuDean Marvin Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: duplicate icons in Control Panel Ramesh, I found no alternate versions of that file in my windows/system32 directory (yes I did have hidden files set to be visible). Could this be a registry problem? Guest Rey Santos Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: duplicate icons in Control Panel The files may also be named "Copy of netsetup.cpl", "Copy 1 of netsetup.cpl" and "Copy of netsetup.cpl" -- Rey "LuDean Marvin" wrote: > Ramesh, > > I found no alternate versions of that file in my windows/system32 > directory (yes I did have hidden files set to be visible). Guest Ramesh, MS-MVP Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: duplicate icons in Control Panel What Rey said. Or you could do a size-wise comparison (as in the link I posted earlier) to see if there are any duplicates. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] The Winhelponline Blog http://www.winhelponline.com/blog "Rey Santos" <ReySantos@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:78E35790-3E58-44E1-96F3-FCF2B0901004@microsoft.com... > The files may also be named "Copy of netsetup.cpl", "Copy 1 of > netsetup.cpl" > and "Copy of netsetup.cpl" > > -- > Rey > > > "LuDean Marvin" wrote: > >> Ramesh, >> >> I found no alternate versions of that file in my windows/system32 >> directory (yes I did have hidden files set to be visible). Guest LuDean Marvin Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: duplicate icons in Control Panel Already done. There was only one cpl file that was 25 kb in size, And the number of cpl files matches then number of items in the control panel minus the extra three duplicates. Something new to report. One time, I booted up, and the extra icons were missing, but the next time I booted up, they re-appeared. All of the icons are functional. Ramesh, MS-MVP wrote: > What Rey said. Try this workaround : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load ncpa.cpl = No (REG_SZ value) -- Regards, Jean-François
