Guest RasVed Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Hi. I have software which is not compatible with SP3, and hence this service pack is not a usuable solution for me. I'm still interesseted in reminders about new updates, which can be installed at SP2, so my question is: How can I tell automatic update to ignore SP3 and only present all other updates to me? As it is now, I constantly get pop-up messages, that Automatic Update wants to install SP3... Further more I have a yellow exclamation mark in my task bar, which makes both me and other users nervous, and make me miss other important updates...
Guest David Webb Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: Avoid SP3 reminder? You can temporarily block it from Automatic Update or Windows Update. Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D7C9A07A-5267-4BD6-87D0-E2A72099EDB7&displaylang=en Be advised that this doesn't prevent installation via a CD/DVD, or from the stand-alone download package. This simply prevents the service pack from being delivered via Windows Update for a limited time. Guest duke Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Re: Avoid SP3 reminder? Your testing my memory but here goes: In Control Panel > Automatic Updates: Select "Notify me but do not download or install updates" When an update becomes available: Select "Manual Updates", selecting the updates you want (uncheck SP3 in this case) Windows Update will ask you if you wish not to be advised of the unchecked updates again (SP3 in this case) By agreeing not to be advised you will no longer be reminded about SP3 Hope this is what you are after. I'd contact the software manufacturer for advice with respect to the compatibility issue! What software is that? How do you know it's not compatible with SP3? > I'm still interesseted in reminders about new updates, which can be > installed at SP2, so my question is: > > How can I tell automatic update to ignore SP3 and only present all other > updates to me? > > As it is now, I constantly get pop-up messages, that Automatic Update wants > to install SP3... When SP3 is offered, do not approve the download.
