Help....!

My Presario CQ61 shut down yesterday and wont start. When i press start button, LED lights all flash on and off, the fan starts and then it shuts down again. It then starts the process again and again but never starts.

Have logged onto compaq website and the problem is listed there however have exhausted all the troubleshooting tips they give (testing the battery, hard reset, etc.) and still nothing

Any advice...?

Thanks a million! :)

Hello and welcome....

This sounds like a power supply fault, which I am afraid to say means a new mainboard.....

But lets see.

Which lights are on?

Does anything appear on the screen?

Are you able to restart the machine and repeatedly tap F8 key and choose an option from a list?

Are you able to enter BIOS/Setup?

Does the recovery option work.F10,f11 or F12?

There is very little that you can do with a laptop ( if it is suspected as being hardware related ).

2/3 things you can try:

1. Take the battery out and try booting from the power adapter.

2. Try booting on just the battery alone.

3. Take the RAM modules out. ( These will be underneath a panel in the base of the machine ).

Put just one module back.

Try booting.

If no good - swap the modules over and try booting from the other one.

4. Outside chance ......try Safe Mode.

Switch on and constantly tap F8 ( about once per second )

If you can get this far try Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
