Hoggie Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Can someone please tell me why my pc is crashing. It firststarted when I played a game on facebook (any game). Now I don’t play games, but when I go to put my spyware thru my system it crashes. I thought it could be mygraphics card but it plays movies. I have done disk check, defrag and check mymemory with memtest all came back okay. Any suggestions would be greatlyappreciated. Windows 7 Ultimate AMD Phenom IIx4 965 processor 3.40GHz Cheers H Quote
KenB Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 when I go to put my spyware thru my system it crashes. I assume this means when you try to run something like Spybot or Malwarebytes (MBAM ) ? If you have MBAM try running it in Safe Mode. Switch on and constantly tap F8 ( about once per second ). You will get a list of options - select Safe Mode from there. Graphics will look a bit odd due to minimal drivers. If you can run MBAM post the log here. MBAM available here: Click on Products > you want the free version http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Hoggie Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Okay, I have made progress. I done sfc /scannowand found files that are corrupt, hopfully this s what is causing theproblem,it’s CBS.Log files?? Can anyone tell me how I would fix delete them, Ihave a copy of the script if that would help. Thanks. Quote
KenB Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 To repair damaged / corrupt system files ( using sfc /scannow ) you would normally have been prompted to insert the Windows installation disk. CBS.Log files This is where SFC stores the log of the scan. Ihave a copy of the script if that would help. This can be a massive file - can you identify the unfixed errors ? KenB Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Hi, The system file check was unable to repair quite a lot of problems that it found. Try running checkdisk to test the condition of your hard drive. It could be that you have a couple of bad sectors. Click on "Computer" Right-click on the drive in question - usually C:\ > Properties Select the "Tools" tab In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now>. You need to check for bad sectors. You will probably be told that chkdsk needs to run on the next re-start. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Plastic Nev Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Hi Hoggie, do you have any recovery disks? did you create your own when you first got the computer? It is looking like a major repair is now needed which can only be done from those disks if you have them. If no disks you may have to get a full Windows 7 Ultimate DVD disk of whatever the system is, either 64bit or 32bit. (from the above I suspect it is 32bit) Let us know what you have and it can be taken from there. Providing you have or can obtain a full Windows 7 disk, 32bit or 64bit whichever your system is, there is an excellent article on how to do a system repair here= http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html Saves me writing a page full. Please do take note of the warnings about system changes and if previously installed service pack 1, then a disk of the same must be used. If you have recovery disks, click on the link "System Repair disc" which is in the red warnings box. This will show you how to use that to repair the system. Nev. Plastic Nev Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Please answer if you have any disks, it looks like the internal repair or recover partition is corrupted, therefore useless, you need disks. Hoggie Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Thanks Nev, I have full windows 7 Thanks H Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 OK Hoggie, as I said above, with that disk you can do a full system repair without losing any of your data such as photos, music, video etc. Have a look at this link= http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...r-install.html It is a full tutorial on how to use that disk to do a repair. If for any reason that it fails to work and repair the operating system, You just might have to do a full re-install. So if possible make a full back up of everything you have. If that fails, there may be a possibility of a hardware fault such as the hard drive, or motherboard even. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
