Where can I request a Windows XP SP2 (or SP3) CD?

I want to reinstall Windows Xp on my computer. I had SP2. But, I would prefer

to install it via a CD rather than dowloading it from the windows update

site. Is there a site where I can request a copy of Windows XP (either SP2 or

SP3) on CD?

Have a look around Microsofts website for a process called slip streaming

service packs.

You can "slip in" sp3 into a installation folder (d:\i386 for example) and

then you can install from this in the future.

You could copy the whole contents of your XPSP2 disk to another disk minus

its i386 folder but include the merged i386. However, I am not so sure on the

licensing on this approach so it could be illegal but I know you can use this

approach for network installations.

Programs like Nlite also allow you to both slipstream a service pack

into the CD then make a new CD all in one process.

Click on your corner of the world in the 'How to Obtain Windows XP Service Pack

3 on CD' section of this web site.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

You can also download the full version of SP3 here.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and

Developers

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

Note: You can ignore the warning about not downloading the file if all you have

is one computer to update.

Also, if you have a program which is capable of burning an ISO image to CD, you

can download the file from this web site and create a CD that will be exactly

what you would receive if you ordered one from Microsoft.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2FCDE6CE-B5FB-4488-8C50-FE22559D164E&displaylang=en

Note: One thing to keep in mind is that if your installation CD is from the

original release of XP (contains no service packs) you will have to install SP1a

or SP2 before installing SP3.

Good luck

You do know that you can simply download it yourself and burn it to CD,

rather than waiting the weeks for it to arrive in the mail after paying

shipping charges?

I do agree that it's more reliable to install from CD, or by copying the

contents of the CD to hard disk, rather than using Windows Update.

Google "XP SP2 IT" and "XP SP3 IT" for links to the full -size installer.

If you don't have a high-speed connection, find a friend or internet cafe

with one and download it there, and burn it to CD.

And you can use these for slipstreaming, as long as your XP install CD

supports that - some OEM versions don't and no "recovery CD"s do.

Am a recepient of the SP3 CD for XP from MS. Total cost including shipping

was 10 bucks.

As a sidenote, you cannot install SP3 in XP if you do not have SP1A

installed. See other replies regarding slipstreaming if that is the case.
