Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 5315 Laptop with Intel Celeron, I am having problems trying to play games. This problem started when the driver for the video card was updated with a more up to date driver from Microsoft and as a result I have not been able to play games. I would be grateful for any advice as to how to solve the problem.Would it be worth installing a different card? If so does anybody have any ideas. Thanks for any help.

Hi and welcome to ExTS

If you are updating drivers for hardware you are best advised to get the drivers direct from the manufacturer's site.

Start .....type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER

Click the + next to Display Adapters and right click on the Video Card.

Click on Properties > then click on the Drivers tab.

There should be an option to Roll Back the drivers to the previously installed ones.

Give this a try.

Just looking for drivers from the Acer site.

That laptop appears to have had Vista or XP on it originally.

Which OS is on it?

32 or 64 bit?

Which Service Pack do you have ?

OS Is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit with service pack 1. I have tried many times to re-install the original driver but without any sucess. Original OS was Vista basic.

Hi,

The specs for your machine are here:

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/0000/Acer/Aspire5315/Aspire5315sp2.shtml

Original OS was Vista basic.

This could well be the problem. There may not be appropriate drivers for Win 7. I will see what I can find.

You asked this earlier....

Would it be worth installing a different card?

Your laptop does not have a card as such. It uses integrated graphics which is a chip on the motherboard.

What is listed in device manager against display adapters?

(see post 2 for how to get there)

=================

From the Acer site:

http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=50

The Chipset drivers are XP / Vista 64 bit / Vista x86 ( 32 bit )

The version is 8.2.0.1014

Is this what you have in device manager?

There is no appropriate Win7 driver.

No the driver is different Ken, I have tried to re-install the origanl driver many times even before I upgraded to Windows 7. The problem started when a Windows update installed the driver,so it now looks like I am stuck with the problem unless you have any idea's how to solve it Ken.

You said you tried all 3 drivers from the Acer site - only one was "correct" - that was the bottom one.

No the driver is different

What is listed?

When you tried to install the driver from the Acre site - you should have disabled the existing drivers from device manager.

Right click on the listed device > disable

Try the Vistax86 driver from the bottom of the list.

Give this a try.

I did disable the driver that was installed and tried to re-install the original driver from the Acer web site but it did not make any difference.

Hi,

All I can find related to that driver is that it is linked to HP machines.

Confusing !!

Your problem is that the Graphics Adapter on your board does not have Win7 drivers - none that I can find - and certainly not on the Acer site.

This is an Acer Vista Driver 32 bit.

Give this a try.

We tried :)

I do think it is related to the fact that there is no Win7 compatible driver for that hardware.

You could contact the manufacturers direct and ask them ...............just a thought.
