Hi... I'm trying to re-install Windows XP on my machine as my virus

scanner keeps picking you trojans. I don't mind rebuilding the whole

machine but I can't seem to get started. Can anyone help? How do I

wipe everything clean from my PC and re-install Windows XP?

Do you have a CD for XP?

Some machines may have the installation files on the hard drive and others

may have a restore or system CD. You need to provide some information about

your PC (make, model, is there a system CD, etc.) before anyone can help.

If you have an OEM machine (Dell, HP, etc.) refer to the manual or tech

support website for it to see how to restore to factory condition.

RE: Re-Building my PC

A bootable Diskette and run fdisk

Run "fdisk /mbr" to wipe the master boot record and then run fdisk to wipe HD.

There is no need to use these W9x/DOS tools to rebuild a disk when

installing Windows XP, the XP CD has all the necessary tools to do this.

If yours is an OEM computer that came with Windows preinstalled,

follow the manufacturer's direction.

If you have a Windows installation CD, just boot from the Windows XP

CD (change the BIOS boot order if necessary to accomplish this) and

follow the prompts for a clean installation (delete the existing

partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one).

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS

installation,, simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be

offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part

of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of

boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.
