Windows 7 home premium, system tells me there are 5 updates. I click install and after several minutes get the message cannot install try again but even then nothing installs.

This is bad enough but now EVERYTIME I shut down the installs begin again.

I have to wait 5 or 6 minutes for the computer to shut down.

About three weeks ago I had help from another site and the problem went away for a couple of days.

Help please.

updates will not install

This goes back for several months so I cannot do a restore over this time as I would get rid of anything since that time.

So - you didn't do a System Restore with the other help you received.

What DID you do to "solve" your problem. We don't want to be going over the same ground.

No, no system restore previously but after three weeks or so I cannot rember what I did do.

Should have kept a note but did not expect the same problem again.

Start > All Programs > Windows update

Take a look at the history ............the most recent will be at the top.

Are there any errors?

If you double click on the error you should get more information.

In the history there are the same six items entered for several days running being each time I have tried to install. I have been onto everything I can find about correcting failed updates and at one point MS suggested it was maleware that was preventing the action.

I contact my security provider, Norton on their chat line. They have taken over my computer, tried to do updates after disabling security and done a deep scan but no waleware found.

They say, the suggestion of maleware may just be an automated reply.

Norton say contact MS but I am back to the beginning because I cannot contact anyone at MS so just get running around the same troubleshooting pages..

Double clicking gives me an error code which is what i have been searching on.
